As many of us are on holidays now and jet setting all around the world the Book Club is back online with a vengeance. (ie: probably you and me Elena ;)
The following books were agreed on for the next few months so get reading and we'll set up a post here shortly to discuss the Aug book.
July: Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
August: Everyman's Rules for Scientific Living by Carrie Tiffany
September: The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
October: Tamarind Mem by Anita Rau Badami
November: The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood
Also, as there were many books that people were interested in reading and discussing the following books are part of the list of 'Further/Wider Reading'. (Yes, it is like being back at Uni...) Here are a few, feel free to add to the list, ladies.
Never Let me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewycka
A History of Love by Nicole Krauss
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt
The Bride Stripped Bare by Anonymous (Nikki Gemmell)
My suggestion would be to set up a blog for each of these books and then people can respond (by clicking on the word 'comment') if and when they have read the book.
Happy Reading!

A post for all the London based members-
Some people have expressed an interest in a 'real time' book club (ie meeting in person) to discuss a book. I'm up for it and happy to host the first one at my place.
The date suggested is Tuesday July 18th- 6ish?
The first book suggested to read is Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer.
Let me know if you're interested and can come.

Elena, I know what you mean about Zadie Smith...I'm sure you've heard by now that she won the Orange Prize last night.
I've read Ali Smith's The accidental and thought it was good but not as amazingly un-put-down-able as Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. I'm currently reading The History of Love by Nicole Krauss which is also a very good read. (techinical term there)
I'm up for trying 'Everything is Illuminated' too. Perhaps that could be our June book...

Welcome to our online book club- Our members at the moment include:
Adrienne
Gill
Elena
Renu
Jane
Chris
Kristen
(Eilis)
Meredith (from November on studies permitting)
As indicated in a previous email to get us started I thought it might be a good idea for each of us to suggest a few books to read so we can create a 'library' or bank of books to choose from. Then we can all vote/pick an order and start reading and chatting....
My suggestion as before would be starting with the orange prize shortlist nominations (see link) as this is a prize for women writers. Or another option could be the 2006 Man Booker Prize shortlist... There are actually 2 books that appear on both shortlists so they could be a good start
ie: Ali Smith; The Accidental and Zadie Smith; On Beauty

The History of Love by Nicole Krauss
Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel
The Accidental by Ali Smith
On Beauty by Zadie Smith
Everyman's Rules for Scientific Living by Carrie Tiffany
The Night Watch by Sarah Waters

John Banville The Sea
Julian Barnes Arthur & George
Sebastian Barry A Long Long Way
Kazuo Ishiguro Never Let Me Go
