The Man Booker 2006 is announced this Tuesday-10th October- has anyone read any of the shortlisted? I know Elena has read Sarah Walters The Night Watch and I'm keen to but it's still in hardback only...
Desai, Kiran The Inheritance of Loss - Hamish Hamilton
Grenville, Kate The Secret River - Canongate
Hyland, M.J. Carry Me Down - Canongate
Matar, Hisham In the Country of Men - Viking
St Aubyn, Edward Mother’s Milk - Picador
Waters, Sarah The Night Watch - Virago

I'm reading the Night Watch at the moment. I've been dying to read it and have been waiting an age for it to come out in paperback. Now that it's here, I can't quite see all the fuss- it's a great story but to be nominated for the Booker and Orange I was just expecting that little extra edge. Having said that I'm only half way through and am really enjoying the description of life in war time London.
