I'm in the middle of reading this and enjoying it. Although I can't decide if it might be because it's set in Dublin (it even mentions Collins ave- the street where I grew up) and that I can identify with so many of the points of reference or if it's because it's actually an excellently crafted, beautiful book. I'll reserve my judegement til the end.

So, I'm finished it.
It is a good book, but I bet the others on the short list are better. That just seems to be the way of my preferences these days.

I'm half way through Adrienne and I am enjoying it, but have not found it difficult to put down. Will wait til I have finished to say exactly what I thought of it. Emma

yeah, you definitely have to be in a certain mood for this book. It's so rich, despite its relative brevity that you can only have small chunks at a time. And its content is pretty hard going too I think.

I enjoyed the book enormously. I liked the unusual style (elyptical is the nearest approximation I can think of), and the way facts are gradually revealed, although I can imagine why some might find it irritating. I agree Adrienne, it's beautifully crafted and, I think, deserved to win a prize. Heard her on the radio too: she sounds really feisty! Elena
