Resurrecting the Book Club 2008
Some of you may know about my 50 things to do list. Well, this year, I have quite a bit of emphasis on books I'd like to read. Wondering if any of you would care to resurrect the book club either online or in person and join me with any of the following?
1. Read the winner of the Man Booker Prize 2007 (The Gathering, Anne Enright) & the runner's up. (See post below)
2. Read the 6 books shortlisted for the Orange Prize for fiction before the winner is announced!! (Usually announced in March and awarded some time in June) Try and get tickets to the final award ceremony (in June)
3. Read 12 out of the BBC's bookclub previous (& current) reads- at least 2 before the BBC radio show is on and possibly even attending a recording
4. Meet at least 4 times through out the year- that's once every 3 months- surely we can do that!!?!! (London members)
Anyone in?

Im in A!!
Afraid I wont be able to make it to the book meetings tho - But will endeavor to join you online from the northcote book grocer which serves coffee and wine with their books so should be able to hook up at either end of the day. Are Meredith or Eilis interested? We could form a satellite club.
I think Mezza is usually up for a good read- although she gets very busy. Eilis has her hands full at the moment though! Maybe in the future!!
Anyways, the people I've had very positive feedback from live in Melbourne, Perth & Calgary (Canada) so online is a real goer!!
HI A,
My friend caroline said she's like to participate also. We were wondering how we keep informed - is it up to us to keep checking your blog page or whatever you call this thing?
xx me
Hi Mez,
So far there are a few people interested who all live in different parts of the world- Canada, Australia (Perth/Melbourne), London & Scotland & maybe Philippines so the blog is the best way I think to stay in touch and I will send updates to people via facebook/email too when we choose a new book.
I usually put a post up about a certain book to start a 'discussion' and then people respond with what they thought. In the past it has been myself & Elena having discussions with each other, which is quite funny because we actually see each other every day at the office too. The boys (AKA 'girls' you know who I mean) at the office laugh at us.
This year we shall set a target to read the short list for Orange Prize for fiction (released Feb/March) before the winner is announced (June-ish).
Before that we will choose a couple of books over the next couple of weeks. Maybe I'll set up a vote? After that we'll set a target. Caroline is very welcome. Does she live in Melb?
